Need to focus on rain water conservation says CM

Ranchi: Chief Minister Raghubar Das said the water was important for life and despite needed by everyone very few take initiative for its conservation due to which the rainwater goes waste. Addressing the people while launching the JAL Shakti Abhiyaan from Barhu village of Kanke block he said that following the directions of the Prime Minister the state government has taken steps for water conservation and has organised ‘shramdaan’ programme from the district to the panchayat level to start the work of water conservation.

He said that in the summer season the people of villages and cities face the problem of water crisis and if rainwater is conserved than underground water table will increase and slowly the problem of water crisis will be solved. He said that the state government is providing Rs 5 lakh to gram Vikas samiti and villagers can make plans to stop the rainwater and in this no government official will be intervening. The Chief Minister said villagers should also look to plant trees at the embankment of their fields and make additional source of Income.

He said that under Jan Van Yojana the government was providing 80 per cent subsidy and people should take advantage of this scheme. Chief Secretary DK Tiwari said that only 6 percent of the rainwater is conserved in the state and 94 percent water goes waste and people needed to think seriously on the issue. He said that small works for water conservation can go in a long way for addressing the water needs.
