Chatra: Police has arrested six smugglers including a couple of women from Nagwan Chowk under Itkhori Police Station area of this district who were involved in the illegal trade of opium.
Addressing a press conference DSP Varun Devgam said that police had received a tip-off after which a vehicle search drive was launched in the area during which an SUV was apprehended and asked to stop but instead the driver tried to dodge the police and flee from the spot.
Police managed to give them a chase and all the six smugglers who were travelling in an SUV when they were caught by the police. He said that from their possession one kilogram of opium, Rs 2.96 lakh in cash and four mobile phones have been seized along with the four-wheeler.
The arrested have been identified as Neeraj Kumar Yadav, Vikas Kumar, Rajkumar Dangi, Devraj Kumar Pandey, Sunanina Devi and Taramani Nag.
