Water crisis: Water level dips in 3 dams of Ranchi, further delay in rain to aggravate situation

Ranchi: 13 lakh people of Ranchi are staring at a massive water crisis as the water level in the Hatia, Gonda and Rukka Dam has been on the decline.

In the last one month the water table in these three dams has declined by six inches to three feet. The maximum decline has been witnessed at Hatia Dam on the other hand water fit for drinking is left for just 7 feet while in Gonda Dam it was 6 feet and in Hatia Dam only eight feet of drinking water was left.

Officials of the drinking water and sanitation department said that water supply can be maintained till July however if it fails to rain than situation can become volatile. By the end of October, water rationing will be done from Hatia Dam.

In the 50 wards of the RMC every day 45 MLD of water is supplied which caters to the need of 13 lakh population. A total of 700 kilometres of the pipeline has been set up in the city to provide drinking water through pipelines while for localities water supply 13 overhead tanks have been built in the city.
