Birsa Munda’s statue damaged: Congress meets Guv, JMM smells of conspiracy

Ranchi: A delegation of the Congress party led by its legislature wing leader Aalamgir Aalam met Governor Draupadi Murmu at the Raj Bhawan here during which they detailed her about the damage caused to the statue of Bhagwan Birsa Munda located at his ‘Samadhi Sthal’ in Kokar. The party said that on a daily basis the great men are being disrespected in the state as on some occasions either statues are broken or through social media objectionable comments are made which is not correct. The party said that such acts increase intolerance and tension in society. The party said that it was a matter of great concern that when the statue of the great men is not safe in Ranchi than where they would be safe.

Congress said that the Samadhi Sthal is located in the heart of the city and despite the presence of security men such an incident was shameful. Those who were also part of the delegation included Mla Sukhdeo Bhagat, JPCC media incharge Rajesh Thakur and party spokesperson Alok Kumar Dubey, Dr Tauseef etc.

On the other hand, the main opposition party in the state Jharkhand Mukti Morcha has described the damage caused to the statue as a conspiracy. Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters here JMM general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya said that the statue had been damaged yesterday evening itself and even the newly appointed cabinet ministers garlanded the damaged statue.

However it was indeed surprising to note that the administration got to know about the incident today in the afternoon despite photos also appearing in the morning newspapers, he said.
