Jamtara: The people in Laxmipur village of Narayanpur block of this district are grappling with severe water crisis forcing the tribal women to undergo hardship to get even a bucket full of water. To answer the drinking needs of the people a well has been constructed in a field. The woman are forced to get inside the well and fill the bucket using utensils with water which is later pulled upwards by another women through ropes telling the grim picture of the condition prevailing in the area.
Since early in the morning one can see a long queue of women near the well who come to collect drinking water. Such is the situation here that people are forced to walk atleast a mile to Joria to get water and despite the bad situation the PHED has failed to get the hand pumps repaired. Moreover all the wells in the area have also dried up. Similar is the condition of neighbouring villages of Gokula or Chihuntiya. The villagers have demanded that the hand pump be repaired so that they can be saved from trouble.
