Ranchi: Former Chief Minister of Jharkhand Arjun Munda who has been recently elected as an MP of the Lok Sabha from Khunti seat has been given the charge of the union tribal ministry in the Central Cabinet.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had taken oath as the Prime Minister of the country for the second time on Thursday. In the previous government, there were two Union Ministers in the government from Jharkhand including Jayant Sinha and Sudarshan Bhagat however this time both of them failed to make the cut. Mr Bhagat managed a hat-trick of wins from Lohardaga but failed to get a cabinet birth while Jayant Sinha too did not return into the Union Cabinet.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shown his confidence in Arjun Munda who managed to who win the Khunti Lok Sabha seat in a very intriguing Battle against the opposition. Mr Munda is also the key tribal face of the party and will be a sole minister from Jharkhand in the Union Cabinet.
Mr Munda who served thrice as the Chief Minister of the state has returned from political exile after a gap of 5 years. He was first elected as MLA from Kharsawan in 1995 and denied to contest from Jamshedpur Lok Sabha seat in 2014 and later was also defeated in assembly polls in Kharsawan.
However, he remained active in the party organization. This time he got the ticket from Khunti from where he managed to win by a margin of 1445 votes. Before taking oath Mr Munda went to the house of former deputy speaker of Lok Sabha Kariya Munda house and sought his blessings as the party denied ticket to its 8 time MP Kariya Munda and fielded Arjun Munda from the seat.
