Bitumen scam: 3 engineers get 3 years of imprisonment

Ranchi: A special CBI Court on Tuesday awarded three years of imprisonment to the then three engineers of Simdega in the Bitumen scam.

The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 1.15 lakh on them. The three engineers Upendra Kumar Singh Umesh Paswan and Rajbali Ram who were posted in rural engineering organizations had committed scam of Rs 1.25 crore. Post the conviction the trio were sent to jail.

These men were also convicted earlier in another case. There are two more cases in which these three are accused. In the Bitumen scam on the directions of the high court, four separate firs were registered in 2009.

In two cases the hearing is complete while in two others decision is expected soon. The engineers have been accused of withdrawing 1.21 crore using fake bills from 2004-2006.
