6 including Father Alphanso get life imprisonment for Kochang gangrape

Khunti: A local court in this district has awarded life imprisonment to six accused in the Kochang gang rape case including Father Alphanso. The court of district and sessions judge (first) Rajesh Kumar awarded the punishments to Father Alphanso Aind, John Junas Tidu, Balram Samad, Junas Munda, Baji Samad alias Tekla and Ayub Sandi. There were a total of 8 accused in this case out of which one of them identified as Noyel Sandi Purty is still absconding while the case of a minor has been transferred to the juvenile court.

The court hand on May 7 declared all the six accused guilty and had set May 17 as the date for the announcement of the punishment. The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh failing to pay which the accused will have to undergo
further imprisonment of two more months. 

The role of Asha Kiran Institution and that of sister Ranjeeta and Vinita is also being probed. In this case a total of 19 people had recorded their statement in this case. The incident had took place on June 19, 2018 when five girls
who were part of a drama team were gang raped in Kochang
