Free of cost transport for divyang voters, ramp and wheel chair facilities at polling booths

Ranchi: Chief Electoral Officer L Khiyangate said that to ensure the participation of the Divyang voters in the election process at state district and Vidhan Sabha level in a phase-wise manner work is being done. As part of the initiative for the Divyang voters facilities of Ramp and wheelchair would be provided at the polling booths along with transport. He said that at 28345 polling booth facilities of tramp has been created. 

Addressing sensitization training program for accessible election at Shri Krishna Institute of public administration here he said that to ensure the participation of the Divyang voters in the election process the Divisional Commissioners have been appointed as accessibility observers the Election commission of India and they would keep an eye on identification of the Divyang voters inclusion of their names in the voter list and facilities to be provided to them. Mr Khiyangate said that at all polling booth for the help of Divyang voters there would be volunteers whose age would be less than 18 years as per the provision of Election commission of India.

He said that in the form of volunteers candidates of NSS Scouts and Guides and NCC would be giving voluntary service. The CEO that for the help of the voter's helpline number 1950 has been launched and awareness regarding the use of this number is being created so that people can understand its use and said that any person can download the helpline number from Google Play Store on Android mobile and also on the iPhone. He said that under sweep special camps for education and inspiring the Divyang voters is being organised in which arrangement of providing them knowledge in their local and simple language and through the use of Signage and Braille literature has been made.

He said adding that for the blind voters the boating sleep and dummy ballot paper would be provided in Braille literature and said that to monitor the facilities being provided to the blind voters the officials posted have been provided special training. He said that for the Divyang voters at the district level a district monitoring committee on an accessible election and at the Vidhan Sabha level assembly on accessible election have been formed.  detailing the facilities which would be provided to the Divyang voters is said that at the polling booths the Divyang voters would be provided ramp wheel chair and a separate line for casting their votes apart from that there would be also arrangements for lighting drinking water toilets and shed.

Further free of cost transport facility would be provided to bring the Divyang voters from their homes to the polling booth and also sending them back to their homes along with that right approach road with proper Signage would also be put up at the polling booth for the Divyang voters.
