Ranchi: Former President of Jharkhand RJD and four time former MLA from Garhwa Girinath Singh joined the BJP in presence of Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman who gave him the membership of the party.
On the charges of being touch with the BJP leaders and not denying the rumours the RJD had already suspended him for 6 years after which Giri Nath Singh had resigned from the party on March 25. After joining the BJP Mr Singh said that he had been influenced by the work of Prime Minister Narendra Modi BJP national president Amit Shah and Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghuwar Das therefore he had decided to join the party. He said that his father had been associated with the days of Jan Sangh and BJP, therefore, he was very happy to have joined the party. He said that he had realised that the country can remain safe only in the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, therefore, he had decided to join the BJP.
When asked as to whether he would be contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Chatra he said that a decision in this regard has to be taken by the senior leadership of the party and whatever responsibility would be given to him he would be fulfilling that. The BJP has yet not declared its candidates for Koderma 17 and Ranchi seats and rumours have it that Annapurna Devi can be fielded from Koderma while Girinath would be given the party ticket from Chatra.
Girinath Singh was among the Founder members of the Rashtriya Janata Dal while his father Gopinath Singh was among them the founders of the Jansangh. His father had become an MLA from the Garhwa assembly seat on the ticket of Jan Sangh in 1962 and 1969 while after BJP came into Inception he went on to become the MLA in 1985 and 1990. However after his death in the bypolls of 1993 Girinath Singh was elected on the Janata Dal ticket after which in 1995 and 2004 he emerged victorious on the ticket of the RJD and in 1997 he also served as a PHED minister in Rabri Devi government. In the Assembly elections of 2005 he became an MLA for the 4th time however in 2009 and in 2014 he was defeated by Satyendra Nath Tiwari. Girinath Singh has also served as the President of Jharkhand unit of the RJD.
