Saryu Rai reviews progress in paddy procurement

Ranchi: Food and Civil Supplies Minister Saryu Rai reviewed the progress of paddy procurement and directed that all such farmers who reach at the paddy procurement centre with their crops their produce should be bought. He has directed that Secretary of the
department to issue a written order to all the DCs.

This year the government had fixed an MSP of Rs 1750 for per quintal of paddy and the state government has also announced a bonus of Rs 150. During the review it was brought to the notice that so far one lakh 80,000 metric tonnes of paddy has been produced. If the districts would have been more active and sensitive towards paddy procurement the figures could have crossed 2 lakh metric tonnes.

In the previous year a total of 2.13 lakh metric tonne of paddy was procured till April 30 however this year due to the elections it is not possible to extend the paddy procurement date beyond March 31, 2019 therefore farmers should reach at the paddy procurement centres. In this year among the districts East Singhbhum is at the top position followed by Hazaribagh and Ranchi while in the previous year Palamu, East Singhbhum and Garhwa were in the first three positions while in the below three districts Pakur, Godda and Sahibganj featured and this year also these three districts are in the bottom.

Mr Rai has directed the departmental secretary to prepare a list of paddy procured at the paddy procurement centres and said that such paddy procurement centers should be encouraged whose performance has been good and clarification should also be sought from such centerd which are poor in the purchase.
