Jharkhand Congress seeks removal of DGP and ADG

Ranchi: The Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee has written a letter to the Chief Electoral Officer of the state seeking removal of Jharkhand Director General of Police D K Pandey and Additional Director General Anurag Gupta. In the letter which has been signed by media incharge of the party Rajesh Thakur and other spokesperson, the party has pointed that Mr Pandey was appointed to the post of DGP in February 2015 and as he has completed 4 years in the post he should be transferred as per the code.

The party further said that during the past few years of his tenure as DGP many off his utterances and action which were widely publicized in media both print and electronic and which he never contradicted show that his conduct was more of a BJP functionary then a responsible public servant. The party said that with him as the head of the police force in the state the vision and mission of commission to conduct fair free ethical and inclusive elections will be subverted. Further, it has also demanded that removal of ADG special branch Anurag Gupta as he is a prime accused in case where he used threats in an attempt to get an MLA to vote in favour of BJP candidate during Rajya Sabha polls of 2016 and a criminal case has been also registered against him.

The Congress said that a special branch of a state police place a very significant role in the conduct of the elections and it is imperative that the officer heading such a sensitive department should be impartial and totally apolitical to ensure free and fair election, therefore, he too should be immediately removed from the post.
