Jharkhand to double liquor shops to increase the revenue

Ranchi: In a move to increase the revenue the state govt has decided to again hand over the liquor sale to private parties and double the number of the shops.

Jharkhand govt had started to sale the liquor in 2017 to increase the revenue. The state govt move, however, failed to add revenue. The state at present selling liquor through 708 govt shops.

“The application for shop allocations to private parties through lottery has been started from Saturday. The application will be invited till March 4 and from March 5 lottery will start” said an official of excise department to IANS. The official added, “ state govt plans to open 1664 liquor through a lottery to private parties.”. Of the 1664 liquor shops, 718 will be Indian made Foreign liquors, 565 of country-made liquor and rest will be composite shops. The decision to again sale liquor through private parties as the state govt failed to get the desired revenue by opening the govt shops.

The state govt had generated revenue of RS 957 crores during 2016-17 financial year which decreased to RS 846 crores during 2017-18 when the state govt started selling liquor through govt shops.
