Jharkhand to file review petition against SC order to remove tribals from forest land

Ranchi: Considering the demand of the political parties including the Opposition, the Jharkhand government has decided to file a review petition in the Supreme Court against the eviction of tribal people from forest land.

“Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das has asked the concerned officials to file a review petition in Supreme Court. No one will be evicted from forest land. The Chief Minister has assured the tribal people not to worry and no eviction will take place,” a government press release said on Monday.

Different political parties had demanded that a review petition is filed in the SC to protect tribal people.
“Around 28,000 tribal indigenous people will be affected by the order. The state government should file a review petition in the apex court” said Supriyo Bhattacharya, JMM General Secretary.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ally All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) has also expressed concern over the SC order.
“The SC order will affect around 11 lakh people of 16 states. Jharkhand will also be affected. The state government should intervene in the issue,” said AJSU President Sudesh Mahto.
