Chirudih firing incident: FIR registered against Hazaribagh DC Ravishankar Shukla and 23 others

Hazaribagh: An fir has been registered against Hazaribagh DC Ravishankar Shukla and 23 others in connection with the Chirudih firing incident.

Following a petition of Barkagaon MLA Nirmala Devi the high court directed the Barkagaon Police Station to register an FIR in this connection against a total of 24 people including DC Ravishankar Shukla, NTPC GM and others. In the police firing incident, four youths identified as Abhishek Rai, Mahtab Aalam, Pawan Sao and Ranjay Ram were killed.

A ‘Kafan satyagraha’ was on in the area against the forcible acquisition of land by NTPC which was being led by MLA Nirmala Devi. On October 1, 2016 she was taken into custody but her supporters forcibly released her from police control after which situation turned ugly and in the clash between the police and the people four youths were killed while 8 other sustained injuries.

The than SDGM Richa Srivastava had also directed the Barkagaon Police to file an FIR in this connection on March 22, 2017 which was not executed by the local police. Later Nirmala Devi filed a criminal writ petition in the High Court on which hearing was held on September 5 and the court issued a notice to the state government asking to reply within a week after which the case was registered in Barkagaon police station.

Apart from DC Ravishankar Shukla other who have been named in the fir included NTPC gm t Gopal Krishna, Triveni Sainik Minning Company’s A Subramaniyam, ASP Kuldeep Kumar and Narayan Vigyan Prabhakar, CO
Sailesh Kumar, SDPO Pradeep Kachap, Inspector Akhilesh Kumar Singh, sub-inspector Shakeel Ahmed and others.
