Jharkhand is a leading state in computerized distribution of food grains: Ravikant

Ranchi: Union food secretary Ravi Kant said that Jharkhand was a leading state in the area of computerized distribution of food grains.
Reviewing the progress in food grains distribution paddy procurement and other matters related to food security at the project building here he said that with the use of computerization the middlemen have been wiped out however in many areas there was a need to build food godowns so that in case when there is no regular supply the people can be provided food grains on time.

He said that in some areas the food grain stock was just of 15 days which needed to be taken to at least two months over which chief secretary Sudhir Tripathi said that work was on to build food godowns in Chatra Dumka and Godda district. The union secretary asked to ensure that milling of paddy is done on time so that the farmers can be paid on time and said that time of the payment to the farmers which was presently 7 days in Jharkhand should be brought down to two days and pointed the example of Chhattisgarh after which the chief secretary directed to send a team to the neighbouring state and study its model. 

He asked to for the speed up food grains of taking in the state and expressed his concern that 10 to 15% food grains were not being
used in the meeting it was said that 94% ration cards have been linked with Aadhaar in the state. Mr Ravikant asked to ensure that 100% ration cards are linked with Aadhar and also directed to conduct physical verification of people to see that whether they were getting the food grains or not. He asked the officials to create awareness in this regard and ensure that panic is not created among the
people in the process.
