Excise department has generated revenue worth Rs 1084 cr against a target of Rs 1600 crore: Choubey

Ranchi: The excise department has till the month of November generated only 1084 crore of revenue against the target of Rs 1600 crore.

Secretary of the excise department Vinay Kumar Choubey informed the Chief Minister during a high-level review meeting that against the total target of Rs 1600 crore till the month of November for the financial year 2022-23 only Rs 1084 crore has been generated which is about 68 percent while sale efficiency of retail product shops is 73.75 percent. He said that the main responsibility of the sale rests with the manpower agencies as per the rules.

He said collection of revenue targets may be possible only on the basis of desired sales. On being questioned by the Chief Minister regarding revenue collection less than the target the departmental secretary informed that the human provider agencies are not able to sell liquor as per the set sales target due to which the shortfall in the revenue target is being reflected.

He also informed the Chief Minister that during the departmental review in this regard, it has come to the fore that the vendors are discouraged due to non-payment of salaries, etc by the human provider agency.

Further, he pointed out that irregularities such as sales by departmental officials in certain shops at a price higher than MRP, activities like mixing water in liquor, and illegal sale of liquor have also been registered.

The sales target was not achieved by them in the month of October, due to which action is being taken to recover it by imposing a fine of Rs 18.22 crore on the human provider agencies as per rules.
