Low-pressure area over Bay of Bengal to trigger heavy rains in Jharkhand

Ranchi: A well-marked low-pressure area formed over northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast is likely to trigger heavy showers in Jharkhand. IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre has issued an alert of heavy rain in isolated pockets of the state, especially in southern Jharkhand.

The weather office also issued a warning of heavy rain at isolated places of East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, Seraikela-Kharsawan, Khunti, Ranchi, Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra, Latehar, Lohardaga, Ramgarh, Hazaribagh, Koderma, Gumla and Bokaro in the next 48 hours.

Weathermen said an associated cyclonic circulation was extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height. It is likely to concentrate into a depression during the next 48 hours and move west-north-westwards across Odisha and Chhattisgarh.

The monsoon trough at mean sea level was passing through Jaisalmer, Kota, Raisen, Seoni, Durg, centre of a well-marked low-pressure area over northwest and adjoining the west-central Bay of Bengal off Odisha and adjoining north Andhra Pradesh coasts and thence southeastwards to the north Andaman Sea.

Satellite pictures indicated dense cloud cover in several districts of southern and central Jharkhand. Weathermen said the rain during the next two to three days will help in reducing the deficit which as of now stood at 48 per cent.
