Trial run held at newly developed Deoghar airport

Deoghar: Indigo Airlines on Tuesday performed a trial run at Deoghar airport. During the trial, landing and takeoff remained successful. The trial was done by a pilot from Deoghar, his native district, Gaurav.

The airport came into existence after the Government of Jharkhand had signed an MoU with the Airport Authority of India (AAI) in 2013 to develop the airport to promote religious tourism in the state.

The government later signed a tripartite MoU with the AAI and Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) in March 2017, to develop the airport for nonmilitary use of Airbus 320 category aircraft. The airport has been developed at the cost of  Rs 400 crore.

It includes a runway, having a length of 2,500 m (8,200 ft) and 45 m (148 ft) wide, a 4,000-square-metre (43,000 sq ft) terminal building to handle 200 passengers per hour, an Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower, an apron for two Airbus A320s, taxiways and an isolation bay. B

The airport received its license issued by the office of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation on 11 April 2022 for regular use of the  Airport for flight operations under the public use category. Its inauguration is held up due to the construction of a 500m approach road.
