Jharkhand HC rejects his bail of Lalu Prasad Yadav

Ranchi: In a major set back to former Bihar Chief Minister and RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav and his supporters the Jharkhand
High Court has rejected the bail petition of the leader who is jailed and is undergoing treatment at paying ward of RIMS here. The court of justice Apresh Kumar Singh rejected the bail petition of Mr Yadav dashing his hopes of reaching his home on the occasion of Makar-Sankranti or enjoying the festival with his famous ‘dahi-chura’.

Earlier on January 4 after listening to the arguments of the counsels representing Mr Yadav and those of the CBI the court had kept its order reserved. The lawyers of Mr Yadav had pointed that in the case other convicts had got bail from the court, therefore, the same should be applicable on him moreover Mr Yadav himself had got bail in previous cases which validated his chances of seeking the bail. Further, the lawyers also pointed his old age and had highlighted the fact that Mr Yadav was suffering from a number of serious diseases including those related to Kidney, heart, blood pressure, diabetes, depression etc.

A special CBI court has convicted Lalu Yadav in the Deoghar Treasury Case of the Fodder Scam on December 23, 2017 after which he was lodged at the Birsa Munda Central Jail located at Hotwar here. As his health declined he was granted six weeks of provisional bail on May 11 which was further extended till August 14 and later to August 27 however on August 30 the court refused to further extend his provisional bail and asked him to surrender.
