Lioness once adopted by Priyanka Chopra dies at Birsa Zoo in Ormanjhi

Ranchi: Lioness ‘Sundari’ who was adopted in the year 2012 by Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra passed away at the Birsa Munda Zoo located at Ormanjhi here. The Lioness was aged 24 and for the last two years fighting with old age and problems in the lungs issue for which she was being provided treatment. 

Bokaro RCCF D Venkateshwarlu who took over charge (additional) of the director of the Zoo today said that the lioness was rescued from Samrat Circus in the year 2004 and was brought to the zoo when she was aged a little above nine years. He said that in a forest a lioness lives around 14-16 years whereas in the zoo their average life expectancy is between 20-22 years.

Sundari lived for 24 years which is an achievement for the management of the zoo. He said that when in 2012 she was adopted by Ms Chopra her mother and other family members had arrived at the zoo to meet her. Post the demise of Sundari the zoo has been left with lion Sashank and a couple of Lioness Priyanka and Nandini.
