Crime against women has decreased in Jharkhand claims CID

Ranchi: The Crime Investigation Department on Tuesday claimed that crime against women in the state over the course of the last
three years has declined while a maximum number of cybercrime cases were recorded in the year 2018.

A comparative data of the last three years which was given by the CID in a press interaction reveals that compared to the year 2016, 2017 in 2018 the incidents of rape, murder, dowry killing, case under dowry act, exploitation, eve teasing, abduction, witchcraft has reduced. While a total of 210 Child Police Stations have been formed in the state in the last three years and under operation Muskaan so far 2675 children have been rescued.

Against crackdown on organised crime, the CID proposed imposition of CCA in the year 2016 on 190 criminals, on 188 in 2017 and another 115 in 2018 out of which the section was imposed on 99, 88 and 56 respectively in the subsequent years while 444 criminals hailing from 39 criminal gangs were arrested. In another key achievement for the investigating agency which started the process of speedy trials from October 2017 in which 501 cases were taken in punishment was awarded to 512 accused out of which 128 were given life imprisonment and one capital punishment.

Similarly in 1001 cases in 2018 513 accused were given punishment which included 97 lifers and a death sentence taking the overall percentage of awarding punishment in 2018 to 71 percent
