NABARD Chairman visits Tata Steel Foundation & various development projects in East Singhbhum & Seraikela

Ranchi: On the second day of his visit to Jharkhand Dr GR Chintala, Chairman, NABARD visited Seraikela-Kharsawan and East Singhbhum districts and participated in various programmes. He visited the Wadi project being run in 17 villages of Seraikela and Kharsawan blocks of Seraikela- Kharsawan district. Support has been provided to 379 tribal families in this project which is being implemented by TSRDS. He interacted with the beneficiaries and reviewed the impact of the activities undertaken by NABARD. He also appreciated the efforts of the District Development Manager for coordinating with various departments.

Wadi is a fruit tree based development project of NABARD. NABARD provides grant-in-aid to each tribal family for orchard development in one acre of land. Other assistance includes assistance to landless tribal families for water resource development, intercropping with suitable crops, border plantation with forestry species, formation of SHGs and income-generating activities. In Jamshedpur, he held a meeting with the officials of the Tata Steel Foundation (TSF).

They briefed about the developmental initiatives being taken by TSF. He appreciated the initiatives being taken by TSF and discussed the collaboration of Corporates with NABARD under CSR. He also inaugurated a skill development programme
on Sewing Machine Operator and Food and Beverage Steward Course sanctioned to TSF under CSR. He visited Marcha village of Patmada block of East Singhbhum and inaugurated the exhibition organized by NABARD for the products supported under various programs.

During the visit, he virtually inaugurated a watershed project and an innovative project on rural infrastructure in Marcha village. In his interaction with the participants, he expressed confidence that such a developmental project would conserve soil and water and lead to optimum utilization of resources, which would ultimately increase the income of the beneficiaries.

He also laid the foundation stone of cluster Resource Center for Off-Farm Producer Organization (OFPO) cluster of 216 artisans working on grass and bamboo crafts in Katunga village of Seraikela Kharshawan district. He also inaugurated the products
exhibition of OFPO.
