Khunti: An area commander of the PLFI who was carrying a reward of Rs one lakh on his head was today arrested from Murhu Police Station area of this district. Khunti SP Alok said that he had received a secret tip-off that PLFI area commander Birsa Bhengra has been spotted in Galu of Murhu following which a team under ASP (Operations) Anurag Raj was formed which acted promptly and managed to arrest Bhengra.
He said that the arrest ultra has confessed to his involvement in more than a dozen cases since 2014. He said that during the interrogation the ultra also gave details related to his other associate who was later nabbed from Toren and was identified as Emanuel Soy Murmu. The SP said that both of them were part of PLFI squad led by Jidan Gudiya. Separately the Khunti police has also managed to arrest four smugglers along with 2.50 kilograms of opium.
The arrested have been identified as Barju Ram Swansi Budhu Singh and Deepak Pahan all hailing from Khunti district and one Pawanjeet Singh of Punjab. A motorcycle and Rs 20,000 in cash have been also recovered from their possession, the SP said.
