Lalu Yadav to celebrate New Year in Jail, HC defers hearing on bail plea till Jan 4

Ranchi: Jailed former Bihar Chief Minister and RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav who is being currently treated at the paying ward of RIMS here would be forced to celebrate the New Year in jail as the Jharkhand High Court on Friday deferred his bail petition till January 4. The counsel of the CBI demanded for more time from the court to present its arguments over the bail plea following which the high court deferred the hearing till January 4. In 2018 Mr Yadav has been forced to celebrate all the important festival in the
jail itself.

Lawyer of the CBI Rajeev Sinha said that he had demanded time so that on merit arguments can be put before the court. He said that when in the previous week the CBI was ready to present its arguments the lawyers of Mr Yadav had pulled off and this time around they had secured the services of senior lawyer Kapil Sibal. He said that the lawyers representing Mr Yadav should have informed him one week in advance regarding presenting arguments which was not done by them, therefore, a week’s time was taken from the court. Mr Yadav in his bail petition has pointed his old age and being diagnosed with 11 types of serious ailments.

On the other hand, Mr Kapil Sibal maintained that since it was an old matte, therefore,e there was no need for CBI to demand extra time and pointed that since Mr Yadav is suffering from various serious ailments therefore he should be granted bail by the high court.
