Mary Kom inaugurates Goonj Mahotsav in Silli

Ranchi: Six time female world boxing champion Mary Kom inaugurated the three day long Goonj Mahtosav in Silli during which she described the festival as a common thread which binds the people of the area and has also ushered in development in the region.

Speaking on the occasion she said that she had also listened about the festival but for the first time has got an opportunity to participate in it and hoped that the event is able to make a name for itself in the international level. She lauded convener of the Goonj Parivar and AJSU party supremo Sudesh Kumar Mahto for his efforts. 

Mary Kom said that despite the nonstop rain and poor weather conditions the participation of the women in such large numbers was an indication that they are in the front row of progress and empowerment. She said that recently Madhumita Kumari has made the region proud by bagging silver medal at Asiad and said that women of the area are full of talent to move forward. 

Speaking on the occasion Sudesh Mahto said that to realize the dreams of ‘Binod Babu’ of making a strong and educated Jharkhand 19 years ago Goonj was started which has now taken a bigger shape. He said that this time the Mahotsav has been expanded and in this the youth, farmers, women, panchayat representatives and local artisans have been included to give them the feel that the event is a reflection of change among them.

On the occasion MLAs of AJSU, former MLA, office bearers, zilla parishad presidents and others were present.
