Former cabinet minister Bandhu Tirkey arrested in DA case

Ranchi: Former cabinet minister and central general secretary of the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) Bandhu Tirkey was today
arrested by a special CBI team of the CBI in a DA case. Later Tirkey was presented in the court of special CBI judge Anil Kumar Mishra which forwarded him to jail. Tirkey was arrested while he was going to Kolibera to campaign for Congress candidate Vixcel Kongadi for the bypolls which are slated on December 20. His party has extended support to Congress in these by-polls.

Talking to the press Mr Tirkey said that the case is related to 2013 in which the CBI has also filed the closure report despite that summons being sent by the court was not correct however he had full respect for verdict of the court. He said that he would be filing for bail today itself. On November 19 the court had issued summon to Mr Tirkey in this case but instead of him his lawyer had appeared before the court. Bandhu Tirkey had served as the HRD minister in the Madhu Koda government of the state and was elected twice to the Jharkhand Assembly from the Mandar seat however he was defeated in the assembly polls.

In the special court of the vigilance department a complaint related to the disproportionate case was filed following which a FIR was registered by the vigilance bureau. Later the Jharkhand High Court handed over the case to the CBI and later a closure report was file in the case. In the fir it was mentioned that Bandhut Tirkey had shown Rs 60,000 as cash and a car in his property while filing the affidavit for contesting the polls. However during his stint as the minister between 2205 and 2009 he brought a flat at Rs 8 crore in Basant Vihar of New Delhi.
