Farmer killed by elephants in Ramgarh

Ramgarh: A 55 year old farmer was killed by a group of elephants in Chakiyatand under Dulmi block of this district while he was guarding his fields. The incident came to notice in the morning when other farmers reached on the spot. Upon receiving information the officials of the forest department and the local leaders reached on the spot. Forest ranger of the area has assured the family to provide the compensation to the family after which the body was sent for post-mortem to Sadar Hospital.

Local villagers said that yesterday night the deceased Manilal Mahto (55) was guarding his field when a group of three elephants came out of the forest and killed the man and also destroyed his crops. Locals alleged that due to the negligence of the forest department Mahto had lost his life as the department took no action despite being aware of the movement of the elephants.
