Central team visits drought hit areas Santhal Pargana

Dumka (By our correspondent): A central team which has come to review the situation of drought in the state visited the areas of this
district during which they expressed their concern over the drying up of Mayurakshi River which is considered the lifeline of the Santhal Pargana region. Senior official of Union Agriculture Minister Shivendu Rai and Ganesh Ram of the Niti Aayog also later
held a high-level meeting with the officials of the district administration over the drought situation prevailing in the area.

Mr Shivendu Rai said that his team has visited the drought hit areas and also spoken with the farmers who highlighted their numerous problems. He said that the Mayurakshi river which is a lifeline for the farmers of the area has dried up and asked the officials to submit a concrete report to the central government over the condition of draught in their area as on several occasions due to technical flaws many sever drought-hit areas are declared mildly hit.

The team instructed the officials to submit a clear cut report so that decisions can be taken in the interest of the farmers and they can be provided benefits under the crop insurance schemes. The team also asked the officials to commence the preparations for the next monsoon season from today itself and also collected information regarding the relief measures which were being run by the district administration.
