Chaibasa (RP Service): Police has arrested the priest of the temple for stealing a 300 year old idol from the Kera Temple located in Chakardharpur of the West Singhbhum district. Police sources said that the priest had stolen the idol in order to maintain his
hold over the temple. The priest had planned to create an impression among the people by bringing the idol back after performing some Vedic rituals for a few days.
Police said that on November 25 the idol was stolen from the temple after which Chaibasa SP Chandan Kumar Jha constituted a special SIT to crack the case. In the course of the investigation the police zeroed in on the priest urgacharan alias Sirka as the lock of the temple had been broken from inside. Police later took Durgacharan into custody for questioning following which he confessed to his crime.
