Corona killing three people daily in Jharkhand, state needs another 673 ventilator beds

Ranchi: With the onset of the winter season the second wave of Coronavirus has started impacting the people sending the state governments of many states running into prevention and protection mode.

The governments of Madhya Pradesh, Delhi and Maharashtra are bracing for the second wave while some have imposed night curfew few others have come up with partial lockdown. Jharkhand too is not aloof from this as recent figures point that number of people being infected by the disease have gathered steam. In bordering districts like Gumla, Pakur and Giridih the positivity rate has more than doubled.

How dangerous the second wave can be gauged from the fact that in the last one week 1.20 lakh samples have been completed and out of which 1397 people have tested positive for Coronavirus while 24 have died which shows more than three people on an average are dying in the state.

As per the details of the Health Department to prevent Jharkhand from the second wave, there was a need to have 31100 isolation beds, 4960 oxygen beds, 1866 ICU beds and 935 ventilator beds. Principal Secretary of the Health Department has already written a letter in this regard to the DCs.

At present, the state has 3330 oxygen beds, 373 ICU beds and 262 ventilator beds which means there was a shortfall of 1630 oxygen beds, 1493 ICU beds and 673 ventilators. 

Principal Secretary of Health Department Nitin Madan Kulkarni said when other areas are battling the second wave then Jharkhand can not also stay behind. He said that the health department has commenced its preparations in this regard and all the DCs have been instructed to make arrangements of necessary beds, medicines, PPE kits and gloves.
