Diwali celebrated with traditional fervour and gaiety in state

Ranchi: Deepawali or Diwali which is the festival of lights was celebrated amid traditional fervour and gaiety in the state.
The much-awaited festival primarily celebrates the return of Lord Rama from a 14-year-old exile after defeating Ravana. Diwali, which falls 20 days after Dussehra, is celebrated with much excitement and fervour.
As much as Diwali is about gorging on sweets, getting ready in ethnic attire and greeting loved ones, it is also about decorating homes to welcome the Goddess of wealth and prosperity, who is worshipped on this auspicious day.
Although the celebrations were toned down due to the novel coronavirus this year, the people did not miss out on greeting their loved ones and family members.
Governor Draupadi Murmu and Chief Minister Hemant Soren had also extended their greetings to the people on the occasion.
He said that the festival has filled up the people with joy and excitement however on one hand while the festivities are being held on the other side the Coronavirus is still present.
He had requested and urged the people to keep the tradition of celebrating the festivals intact but on the other hand in he asked them to take all the proper precautions so that they can themselves remain safe and also keep others safe.
The state government had also set 8 PM to 10 PM as the time for bursting the fire crackers in many districts of the state to prevent sound and air pollution however people happily defied the guidelines and continued merry making late into the midnight.
In many areas of the state Kali Puja was also observed. The government had come out with similar guidelines for Kali Puja which was done at the time of Durga Puja and accordingly the Puja of Goddess Kali was performed across temples and various pandals in the state.
