Ranchi (By our correspondent): State’s Development Commissioner D k Tiwari said that Jharkhand was not only about the iron ore and coal mines but is also the home of the world’s tastiest peas. Speaking at the concluding ceremony of the Global Agriculture and Food Summit at Khelgaon here he said that people from various corners of the world have gathered here to witness as to what steps
have been taken by the state to realize the dream of the Prime Minister.
He said that all such farmers which are involved in vegetable production need special mention as it was due to their efforts that the state has reached the second spot in the production of peas and 5th in production of tomatoes and other crops. He said that the state was using the least amount of insecticides and fertilizers and now the time has come to move further towards organic farming. He said that the Jharkhand government has the best food policy in the country and the biggest plant of food processing has been set up in the Eastern region in the state. He said that now peas and maize from Jharkhand are being eaten by people of Delhi and even order has been received from Singapore.
Mr. Tiwari said that it was due to the farmers that the agriculture growth has jumped by 19 percent and said that many steps have been taken by the state government including providing agriculture equipment, soil health cards etc due to which the state was making a name for itself in the agriculture field. He said that even the Prime Minister has pointed out that Jharkhand was the lone state where the premium is being paid completely by the state government. He called on the farmers to adopt modern techniques in farming and focus more water conservation so that they can do multiple cropping.
