Tremendous opportunity in agri and food processing sector in Jharkhand: Chief Secretary

Ranchi (By our correspondent): Stating that there was tremendous opportunities in the agriculture and food processing sector in the
state Chief Secretary Sudhir Tripathi said that the climate, geographical condition and hardworking farmers are capable enough of indulging in high-quality agricultural activities. Speaking at the Global Agriculture and Food Summit at the Khelgaon here he said that Jharkhand is also known in the country not only for its mineral wealth but also for its agriculture. He said that the present government in the last four years has undertaken many new initiatives in the agriculture sector including the soil health cards, the formation of women self-help groups, the establishment of beej gram , modernization of markets and focus on agro-based industries.

He said that the event has provided a single platform where all the farmers, agricultural scientists, traders and representatives from industrial houses are present and when all the stakeholders will share their ideas from a common platform than better results would be available in the agriculture sector and also thanked the scientists from the world who had gathered at the venue. Mr Tripathi also urged the farmers to visit the stalls which have been put up at the venue and learn the new methods.

He said that under the leadership of the Chief Minister many achievements have been made in the areas of ODF, Mnrega, Ujjwala Yojana, PMGSY etc. He said that by December end power will reach in all the homes and hoped that the farmers who are present here will learn new techniques of agriculture and herald prosperity in their villages and among other farmers using the knowledge gained here.

Addressing the event MD AMUL R S Sodhi said that whenever there is a talk of development of Jharkhand than one would also speak about the progress of the rural areas. He said that India ranked number one in the area of milk production and in Jharkhand 52 lakh tonnes of milk was produced against a requirement of 130 lakh tone as a result of which the state is forced to import milk worth Rs 13,000 to Rs 14000 crore.

Mr. Sodhi pointed that even if 25 lakh liters of milk is produced in the rural areas 2.75 lakh people would be benefitted and save Rs 10,000 crore. Pradipta Kumar Sahu of Mother Dairy said that in 2016 the company had given a proposal to set up its unit in the state and within 30 days 27 acres of land was available and within a year plant was ready.
