Property registration in name of women up to Rs 50 lakh at just Re 1 scrapped by Hemant Government

Ranchi: After doing away with Mukhyamantri Krishi Aashirwad Yojana the Hemant Soren led Mahagathbandhan government of Jharkhand has scrapped another much-talked scheme of the previous regime which was the registration of property worth up to Rs 50 lakh in the name of women at just Re 1.

A notification in this regard has been issued by the Revenue, Registration and Land Reforms Department. As per the notification the scheme has been withdrawn with immediate effect.

The scheme was launched under the tenure of BJP government led by Raghubar Das on June 19, 2017, under which more than 1.50 lakh properties including houses were registered in the name of the women. As per data of the department it had emerged that till January 2020, 70 percent registration had taken place in the name of women which had resulted in losses worth Rs 1300 to the state exchequer.

The government in a couple of months earlier itself had given ample indication that the scheme would be closed. The officials in support of scrapping of the scheme said they poor and the lower-middle-class people do not buy a property up to Rs 50 lakh. The officials of the registration department had claimed that in Ranchi 90 percent bureaucrats, politicians and businessmen had taken advantage of the scheme.

In 31 months 1.75 lakh deeds were registered in the name of women at Rs 1 which had caused a loss of Rs 1300 crore and if the scheme is scrapped than it would help to yearly generate Rs 600 crore. Another reason behind the scrapping of the scheme is that the government wants to use the funds generated through registration of deeds for providing free water and power to the people.
